Social clubs are rooted in the community – member-owned spaces where people come together to socialise,
organise, create, and belong.

What we do

21st Century Social Clubs is a national initiative working directly with social clubs across the country, delivering practical support that helps them strengthen their finances, grow their membership, and plan for the future. This support is delivered through two complementary programmes, each designed to meet clubs where they are:

A major new national programme launching in June 2026 will bring community organisers, business support, and dedicated funding into 20 areas of deprivation across England over five years.

Regional programmes developed in partnership with local authorities, are already delivering group learning events, tailored one-to-one business advice, and grant funding to help clubs at every stage, with our first programme live in Rotherham and more areas to follow.

Alongside this, we host national events that connect clubs with each other, with policymakers, and with the wider movement working to protect these spaces. The best place to see this work in action and get involved is our upcoming Annual Conference at the restored Redhills Durham on 10th September 2026.

The journey

In just over a year, 21st Century Social Clubs has grown from a research programme into a national movement. From our first support survey and policy roundtables in early 2025, through a sold-out inaugural conference, a delegation to Number 10, and recognition in national policy, to regional partnerships on the ground and a major national programme announced in 2026.
